The Emmys are back! Another year, another lineup of trashion triumphs, styled successes and couture catastrophes. An exaggeration? It’s up to you to decide.
SARAH PAULSON: Boxy Beauty or Bore?
Starting out strong with this daring Louis Vuitton look! Paulson’s deep blue set plays off of our favourite galactic alien aesthetic at the expense of two- maybe three- bottles of hair gel. How else can you expect such a slick ‘do? The boxy top puts us in the mood to unwrap birthday presents early this year and is, simply, the gift that keeps on giving. The layered skirts are serving raided-my-mum’s-wardrobe-chiq. But, above all, it’s the accessories that really draw the ensemble together: a shiny belt paired with a silver choker, a classic homage to the early 2000s Disney pop star. We are looking at you, Miley.
ZENDAYA: Mysterious Magic or Monotone?
It’s Zendaya. Enough said. We all know she dresses and impresses. Every. Single. Time.
AMANDA SEYFRIED: Pink Princess or Panic?
On Wednesdays we wear pink and Seyfried got the memo! She looks absolutely fabulous in this Barbie mermaid get-up, alluding to Old Hollywood Glamour and sparkle. What else is there to say? She looks so fetch!
SANDRA OH: Violet Victory or Violation?
Oh, in Rodarte, is another among the stars swimming in sparkle! She came dressed as a dazzling disco ball this year, sporting an indigo sequinned jacket and trousers that truly make a statement. In perfect cohesion, purple accents her earrings and nails; she shines in this manicured Barney look.
LIZZO: Daring Delight or Disaster?
Lizzo or loofah? The singer radiates in this red and ruffled ensemble. The dress itself explodes in rosy pom poms with a train so long it becomes the red carpet. All the rumours are true: Lizzo never misses when it comes to award show fashion!
ELLE FANNING: Gorgeous Gown or Gag?
Fanning channels a signature vintage silhouette in this glamorous couture gown. She could fit right in with the 1950’s aesthetic of upcoming film Don’t Worry Darling (main stars: Harry Styles, Florence Pugh, Olivia Wilde and Major Drama). The dress, the hair, the makeup, it’s all simply magnificent. Or, for Fanning fans since 2014, Maleficent.
SYDNEY SWEENEY: Floral Fashion or Failure?
Have you checked your sofa cushions recently? Likelihood is, Sweeney’s dress stole the pattern. In reality, it is a nice dress with a nice design- opting for grey and white in particularly cheery and colourful ornamentation- but we’ve seen better. Seriously, though, the real question is: whose duvet is she wearing?
RUPAUL AND MICHELLE VISAGE: Leopard Love or Lame?
Always rely on RuPaul to bring the shock factor. In the grand scheme of things, this animal printed suit and trousers is, in fact, one of his milder looks. It doesn’t mean we love it any less! Every detail is perfect, down to the magenta collared shirt and oversized sunglasses. While appreciating his preparedness against the UV rays, it begs the question: how bright are those camera flashes?
Meanwhile, Visage sports a pair of ruffled black sleeves (wings), cause for concern that she may fly away at any given moment during the award ceremony.
