Judging your Favourite Just Dances
Just Dance is a core memory for (almost) everyone. Whether it was during school PE on a rainy day, at home absolutely destroying your siblings' confidence, or by yourself trying to beat your highscore and reach the level of ‘superstar,’ we’ve all grown up with the game. Out of all of the just dances (and seriously there’s soooo many) there are a few that are done every single time without fail: wakka wakka, timber, Rasputin, hips don’t lie and what makes you beautiful. Is your favourite really the best, or are you blinded by nostalgia? Let Unpublished lead you to the right answer…
Wakka wakka

This just dance is a classic and always a safe group option. The moves are all rather simple and the ‘bike’ is actually surprisingly doable. Unfortunately the stunt at the end (where one person has to jump and be caught by the other three) never seems to work out as shown on the screen - I have seen far too many injuries collected from miscommunication between the jumper and the catchers (once two people tried to both jump - still have no idea how this happened but it definitely did not work out well). So in reality maybe this is not so safe an option.
Timber

From what I’ve seen, most people know this dance off by heart - specifically the part where you spin your partner round and round. A disturbing amount of crashes with other partners tend to occur - lack of spatial awareness, am I right? - , but the piggy back at the end always works quite well - unlike the ending of wakka wakka. I strongly believe that everyone has a designated role in this Just Dance so tell me who are you - the panda or the girl?
Rasputin

This requires a surprising amount of skill and stamina to complete - in other words it’s almost impossible to do the dance without skipping some parts (specifically when you have to crouch on the floor and start bouncing around like a rabbit). Sometimes I believe this is harder to complete than the 800 meters on sports day - though I have to admit I always end up walking some sections so maybe it’s not quite a fair comparison. But to those of you who are capable enough to complete the whole of Rasputin….congrats I aspire to have your level of just dance skill.
Hips don’t lie

Maybe one of the most entertaining ones in my opinion - and not too athletically challenging (unlike Rasputin). I absolutely love bumping hips with my friends (occasionally we make it a competition to see who can displace who the most), but on average this is a very calm and collected one in terms of the required dancing capabilities. Also this is my favourite song out of all of the above so maybe I’m slightly unfairly biased…..
What makes you beautiful

Honest opinion….I absolutely hate this. All of these dances are played constantly but this one is played the most and I think I’ve had enough. Not only this, but it’s so repetitive we all look like we’re stuck in an endless loop….its all rather ridiculous. No shade to the people who love this though. We all have our own interesting opinions.
Personally, I find that hips don’t lie is by far the best option. It hasn’t reached the point that everyone has memorised the steps and it’s not as repetitive as the other options. Plus I find the characters on screen quite funny with their XXXXXXL sumo costume.
Fingers crossed that our ranking provides some dance inspiration ahead of the mad lip sync rush coming up this half term - thoughts and prayers to all the people who have had the role of ‘amateur choreographer’ thrust upon them in the past few weeks. We’ll be back soon…
