Little Shop of Horrors

Updated: Oct 14, 2020

The 2020 whole school musical ‘Little Shop of Horror’ is an awe-inspiring, gasp-inducing comedic masterpiece. The (slightly dark) humour of the show only adds to the vast array of talent provided by the gifted cast. Savannah Turnbull, Mia Hassan and Sophie Thomas playing the roles of Ronnette, Chiffon and Crystal provide an excellent Greek Chorus-esque touch to an already outstanding play.

There are no words to describe Katie Peachey playing Seymour, an awkward orphan turned botanical mastermind. The ideal combination of comedic timing and charisma helps to portray a truly unique talent. The same can be said for Evie Martin playing Audrey, who truly makes the show come alive. She captures the role of Audrey with vigour and a sensational voice, not to mention her passionate acting abilities. Issey Dodd as Mrs Mushnik defined the term ‘triple threat’ as a skilled actress, singer and dancer, and her talent undoubtedly shone through onstage. Millie Dodd was a hilarious - albeit slightly sadistic- dentist named Orin. Her and her sister certainly made an excellent double act. Millie’s powerful voice certainly made a welcomed appearance and she evidently was a fan favourite from the laughs during her scenes.

The chorus of girl singers, Sophie Blake, Maddie Chandler, Amy Cheal, Ava Kean, Charlotte Moore, Georgia Quinn, Honor Wiggins, Flo Wilkes and Matilda Wilkes were a genius touch- their harmonious voices showcased their excellent vocal talent and provided an excellent addition to the play. No doubt individually their powerful voices are angelic, but as a chorus the effect they had certainly gave everybody in the audience goosebumps. Not to mention their magnificent hairstyles! Other notable cast members and fantastic additions include Ruby Alexander, Morwenna Richards, Amy Snudden, Daisy Studd, Allie Shiatis, Annabel Hayes, Abbie Studd, Rosa Wiggins, Livia Muscia, Freya Emerson, Jeanette Jones and Cesca Thompson, and their talent was still excellently showcased thanks to the directors Miss Tricker, Ms Reid, Amy Wilmot and Livia Muscia.  In the words of certain other audience members "this show was definitely the best one yet". We completely agree, and are relieved to know that our opinion is shared (thanks to a little bit of eavesdropping).

Special thanks to the Tech team and Crew, namely Frida Roper, Alicia Doran, Flo Allen, Ruby Foster, Emily Alsop, Carys Siddle, Flo Brooke, Lily Glenn, Adrian McLean and Aerin Hamilton- Lane for providing such incredible props that really brought the play to life (but seriously - how did that last plant work??). Thanks also for their hard work with lighting and sound and all the small details that kept the show running, that are often overlooked. The band, including Ms Reid, Alyssa Chan, Mr Williams, Mr Hennessey and Mr Neville were fantastic, and with their help, a musical masterpiece was formed. The songs were out of this world, and I’m sure the entire toe tapping audience would agree. And finally, the star of the show itself, the plant. Excellently voiced by Aimee Wilmot, this mean green mother from outer space simply stole the show, and Aimee’s vocals are not to be missed! Her appearance onstage at the end was much anticipated and completed the show with style. We would also like to credit the costume designers and the puppeteers (Rosa Wiggins, Katie Peachey, Dr Vicenik, Father Sam McNally Cross, Flo Brooke and Lilly Glenn in case you were wondering) for their vital contributions.

All in all, we had an absolutely outstanding night, and enjoyed every single moment. There was a lot of laughter, many goosebumps and a couple of tear jerking moments. I think it is safe to say that without the help of every single member of cast and crew, this wonderful show would just not have been possible. Truly, this show was beyond compare and made for an ideal Wednesday evening.
