Things from TV Shows and Movies We All Wish Were Real

Let’s face it: life would be a lot more interesting if some of the inventions and gadgets from our favorite TV shows and movies existed in real life. From futuristic tech to magical items, here are some iconic fictional creations we can only dream of having.

1. Pear Phones

If you watched iCarly or Victorious growing up (am I…old?), you probably remember the Pear Phone. These weren’t just phones; they were shaped like actual pears, which somehow made them infinitely cooler. Sleek, indestructible, and futuristic, they’d definitely beat the usual rectangles we carry around today.

2. Janet from The Good Place

“Not a girl,” but also not just a robot, Janet is the ultimate assistant who knows everything. Need advice? Janet’s got it. Want a million dollars? Just ask. Hungry for the best pizza in the universe? She’ll summon it in seconds. The best part? She’s cheerful, unflappable, and has zero judgment (unless you’re Jason). Who needs Google when you’ve got Janet?

3. Web Shooters

Spider-Man’s web shooters would solve so many problems. Need to grab something out of reach? Done. Stuck in traffic? Swing over it. They’d certainly make commutes a lot more fun, as long as you don’t mind the occasional dizzy spell. Just be careful not to accidentally redecorate your room…

4. The DeLorean

Time travel might still be a pipe dream, but Back to the Future made it seem so close, thanks to the DeLorean. This sleek, stainless steel car isn’t just a vehicle; it’s a ticket to any time period you can imagine. Want to ace history? Just visit Ancient Rome for firsthand notes. Imagine being able to visit any time period - whether it’s to see history firsthand or fix that awkward moment that keeps you up at night that you’d rather forget.

5. Vibranium

The indestructible metal from Black Panther could revolutionise… well, everything. Vibranium-powered smartphones, ultra-durable clothing, and buildings that could withstand natural disasters? Sign us up. It’d also be pretty handy for creating high-tech gadgets (or a stylish Vibranium shield, if you’re feeling heroic!). Just don't try to make a water bottle out of Vibranium because the sound of that hitting the floor? Deafening.

6. Invisibility Cloak and Time Turner

Harry Potter gave us two of the most game-changing magical items ever: the Invisibility Cloak and the Time Turner. Sneaking around unnoticed? Check. Getting more hours in the day to tackle everything on your to-do list? Double check. Overbooked schedule? Just spin the hourglass and do it all… twice. I don't think there's a Godolphin student out there who’d turn down these gadgets; somehow we’re always scrambling to fit in a million extracurriculars and revise for a test.

7. Cher’s Closet from Clueless

If there’s one thing that makes the 90s iconic, it’s Cher’s computerised closet. Imagine an app that catalogs all your clothes and helps you pick the perfect outfit every day. That’s exactly what Cher’s computerised closet does. No more stressing over what to wear - just scroll, select, and go. I know it would certainly save a few of our sixth formers some time in the morning…(spoiler: it’s me)

8. Rapunzel’s Hair

Long, glowing, magical hair might sound impractical, but Rapunzel’s locks are the ultimate multitasker. They can heal wounds, light up dark spaces, and double as a rope. Sure, it’d take forever to brush, but the perks would make it worth it. Plus, you’d never need a ladder ever again. You could also use it as a blanket which may be needed if you ever have a lesson in the MG building…

9. The Memory Viewer from Inside Out

Ever wish you could relive your happiest moments? The memory viewer from Inside Out lets you revisit past experiences in stunning detail. Whether it's the moment you were first in the queue for lunch, or the day when it rained so hard hockey turned into co-op games (!!!) this contraption is certain to give anyone a bit of nostalgia.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Snozzberries from Willy Wonka: Candy that tastes like any fruit you can imagine? Yes, please.

  • Lightsabers: Maybe not practical for everyday use, but who wouldn’t want one?

These might just be fictional (for now), but it’s fun to imagine how they’d change our lives.

Who knows? Maybe one day some of these will become reality…

Xoxo
